Wolviston FC travelled to West Auckland Tunns in the opening game of the 21/22 season with trepidation not knowing what lay ahead. That trepidation clearly showed with a hectic start and Wolviston looking a little nervous. It took until the 10th minute before creating a chance then along came two. First Jake Stott screwed just wide with an angled drive followed by Sean Ryders long range effort going agonisingly wide. With the game now evenly balanced the next real chance fell to Nathan Bayes but home keeper Jake Burns made a fine block. Wolviston on fields problems continued with skipper Callum Williams forced off due to a groin strain. Visiting keeper Dan Hebden kept Wolviston in the match with a stunning save on 30 mins from a shot by Cobi Jones by pushing his hard effort wide.
H.T. 0-0
It was Hebden again in the 62nd minute who made a tremendous double save when blocking a strong shot from Will Preston then denying the same player by pushing away the rebound. The game was won in the 80th min after a ball from Hebden found Bayes who fed Jake Stott who outstripped his defender and smashed home a beauty. This was hard on West as they put in a formidable performance that warranted at least a point.
