The Villagers beat Willington FC 3-1 in a tight game which brought 3 badly needed points!!

After numerous hours put in by the Wolvo backroom staff to get the Metcalfe Park pitch playable it certainly paid dividends by the boys recording a fine 3-1 win against fellow strugglers Willington FC. Wolvo started on the front foot and could have been 3-0 in front after only 5 mins. Firstly a Callum Blair header was scrambled away followed by a James Webb shot being saved by visiting keeper Aiden Gill and finally a Mikey McGee shot being scrambled away for a corner. Willington counter attacked in the 7th min but Theo Hutchinson put his effort well wide. In the 17th min Mark Dixon played a glorious through ball to find Mikey McGee who beat the keeper but sadly shot wide. On 20 mins a corner from Wiillingtons Zak Blyth found Sam Dawson but his powerful header looped off the top of the bar . This was followed 2 mins later with Tyler Kilburn-Robinson crashing another shot off the bar. Great individual skill by McGee sadly finished with his effort sailing high over the bar. With the half coming to a close it was McGee again who raced clear but hit the keeper with his final effort.
H.T. 0-0
The 2nd half started where the 1st half finished with Wolviston creating chance after chance and yet another effort fell to Robbie Gratton but keeper Aidan Gill made a fine save. 7 mins later a corner by Stewart Bath found Christopher Cotterill in the centre of the goal but he headed straight at keeper Gill. In the 56th min the game was stopped to wait for an ambulance after James Webb fell awkwardly and dislocated his right elbow. The best chance of the game fell to Willington in the 60th min when Matty Moody somehow from close range put his effort wide. Wolvo went in front in the 61st min when a corner by Gratton eventually found Chris Cotterill who scored his first goal of the season in off the post. Within a minute Willington levelled when Zak Blyth scored from close range. Wolvo regained the lead in the 65th min after Dixon played a through ball to Cal Blair who turned his defender and beat the keeper to coolly slot home into an empty net. This was followed by Blair squaring to McGee but the striker hesitated and the chance was cleared for a corner. With 10 mins remaining McGees pace one again put him clear but he put his effort over the bar followed by sub Jack Leicos also screwing wide. Leicos however made up for his miss after receiving the ball from Gratton and he gratefully bundled the ball home.
