Wolviston Reserves lose in a tight match.

We travelled in the sunshine on Easter Saturday to face potential champions Newton Aycliffe at their place full of confidence after a couple of good performances.

The changing room was tight, we then waded though a bog to get onto the pitch, which was soft and on a slope and bobbly but we were good to go!

Our hosts were excellent, but we kept them under wraps. Our midfield work hard, or defensive gave everything (including Keefe’s leg and blood) and the strikers were causing problems. There was a a number of dubious challenges in the first 30 mins followed by a few close shaves at both ends - but it was competitive. Our host did score 2 excellent good just before half time.

Second half we came out with belief in our game and abilities and struck back. First, when a Donnison free kick was flicked on by Hakes and scored by Hogan. A great chase down by Hakes caused the home defence to bring the striker down. Up stepped Lee Roberts on the edge of the box and slammed* the ball into the near posts, for the second week running.

As the game ebbed and flowed our hosts; who will win the league, pressured us and an uncharacteristic slip let them scored their third. The lads continued to play well and contain the cup finalist. As we decided to really push for the equaliser we got caught and ended up 4-2 down, but that’s the gamble we took.

This week was another where we really competed with a very good team, but ultimately fell just short of the desired result.
