
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian Jones, Vice-President of Wolviston FC, who passed away peacefully this morning. Brian was not just a member of our club, he was its cornerstone for 66 years.
Brian's extraordinary journey with Wolviston FC began in 1959 when he signed as a player at the age of 23, spanning an incredible 66 years of unwavering commitment to the club he loved. From his early days as a player to his leadership as first team manager, Brian's passion for the beautiful game never wavered, and his dedication to seeing Wolviston FC succeed was absolute.
In 1975, Brian took on what would become his defining role, club treasurer. For an remarkable 48 years, he managed the club's finances with meticulous care, his attention to detail and commitment ensuring stability and the foundation for long-term growth. His stewardship helped secure the club's future and enabled countless players and families to be part of Wolviston FC.
At 89 years, Brian's love for Wolviston FC burned as brightly as ever. Rain or shine, he was a steadfast presence at every home and away match, his genuine enthusiasm and passion inspiring everyone around him.
His commitment extended far beyond the touchline. As an essential member of the ground maintenance team, Brian dedicated two afternoons each week to ensuring Metcalfe Park's pitches and facilities were nothing short of impeccable. His pride in maintaining the club's reputation as a welcoming venue was evident in every blade of grass he tended and every detail he perfected.
Brian's impact reached far beyond his official roles. As a trusted advisor and mentor, he generously shared his wealth of experience and knowledge with newcomers, always ready with guidance, encouragement, and wisdom. He was the bridge between the club's proud history and its promising future, helping others understand what it truly meant to be part of Wolviston FC.
Recently stepping back from his treasurer duties to become Vice-President, Brian continued to provide invaluable guidance and support. His appointment recognised his exceptional service and ensured his wisdom would continue shaping the club's path forward.
Beyond his remarkable contributions to football, Brian will be remembered as a kind and caring true gentleman who was respected not just at Wolviston FC, but throughout the wider community. His warmth, integrity, and genuine care for others touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Brian had a rare gift for making people feel valued and welcome.
