Billingham Synthonia Tournament 2022

Wolviston had to wait patiently for their first bit of action not playing their first game till the third game in, it was a slow start for Wolvo as they failed to capitalise on any of the many chances they made finishing the game 0-0.

The next game Wolvo knew a win would be enough to put them into the final, Wolviston camped in the half of their opponents with chance after chance being squandered before a bit of brilliance seen Scotty score the only goal of the game, Wolvo pushed on really turning the screw but as the game closed out they just couldn’t get it right in front of goal.

The final game and through to the final Wolviston played some great football creating a number of chances Yale pulling a shot just wide of the post before a great chance for Faulkner to finish but the ball just got away from him. Wolvo were hit on the break and a costly break it was as Pinto was just to strong for his man sending him flying and in the disbelief to everyone including the opposition players and manger the ref points to the spot gifting them a penalty. The penalty was converted giving Freddie no chance. Pedro Pecko thought his time had came as the clock was running down he had the morning papers in his head as he goes to smash a half volley from 25yards out only to be met with a wall of defence injuring himself in the process.

The Final
Wolviston started bright enough having the lions share of the ball but failing to really test the goalkeeper. That seemed to be in keeping with the game as everything Acklam tried was dealt with comfortably with the back four, Wolvo winning the battles in the middle of the park made for most of the game to be played in the Acklam half, this continued throughout the final but again Wolviston couldn’t capitalise as dangerous balls kept coming into the area only to come to nothing. Just as the game looked set for penalties Yale was caught late as he cuts in from the left resulting in a last minute free kick just out side the box, Goodhall floats it perfectly to the back post for Cal Thomas to out jump the biggest lad on the pitch getting his head on it guiding it into the top corner.
