The Reserves travelled out to Richmond for a fixture on Astro to ensure its completion through the horrendous weather we’ve paddled through. The score line of the game was the most mismatched with the actual game this season. The result was tainted by 5 calamitous errors leading to goals in the Mavericks favour.
The lads actually played fairly solid; our effort and attitude was good. We started off a little disjointed as 3 new starters were fitting in to an evolving system. The blues were looking decent as we settled into the game and found our feet across the park. Our hosts were surprised how hard we were to break down, the good football we played and the energy from the front players. We showed good intent, but often our execution was a little off as passes and through balls were cut out or blocked. As the half wore on our midfield were being stretched when facing up to the Mavericks and before the half was done a good goal, an error and a poor decision pushed our hosts in front.
H.T. 3-0
The second half saw the midfield looking sharp as we knocked the ball around with ease: Wolvo continuing to probe for that key opening. The latter 45 saw the hardworking Oates and Hogan nearly get the rewards they deserved : with Hakes firing in from all angles, but the crossbar along with the keeper kept his clean sheet.
The lads continued to play the ball around the back and players movement looked good. Our mistakes continued to haunt us as 3 more howlers, an own goal and a smart finish gave the score line a bizarre glean in the mavericks favour. As we learn more about the lads and ourselves, we move forward together.
F.T. 8-0
