Our second competitive game of the season saw us make the relatively short trip to face Horden, looking to build on our opening day win. With 4 players ready to make their first competitive appearance in the Wolviston blue.
The pattern was set early on, with both teams having spells of possession but neither managing to breach two resolute defences. But breach it we did with the first meaningful chance of the game in the 18th minute, Grace ran onto a Katie pass and calmly slotted it past the onrushing keeper, a debut goal.
The pattern of both defences being on top resumed. Horden had a few efforts from distance that sailed just over, but nothing on target, while Jess forced a save from the keepers legs and when she did get the ball past her, Cara narrowly missed the cut back.
The second half was much the same, we defended from the front and our backline did brilliantly to deal with everything that was thrown at them.
At the other end Sophie couldn't quite connect with an excellent Beth cross, Jess just lost her balance when in a good position and we had a few efforts from distance. Horden had their spells and moments but never really forced Layken (first half) and Hayley (second half) into much action, indeed they only managed one shot from inside our box all afternoon.
Not a game that will be remembered for our champagne football, we know we can play better offensively, but brilliant effort across the pitch to get that clean sheet and an all important second win to start our season.
