The opening 10 mins of this Durham Challenge Cup Tie was fairly even but it was Synners who went in front on 13 mins. The Wolviston defence was caught for pace and allowed Brandon Slater to quickly outstrip his last man and dink over the advancing Dean Hudson. 4 mins later Wolviston responded with a cross by Joe Joyce that was swept wide at the far post by Scott Ryan. Synners once again showed their pace in the 28th min with Alex Bruton bursting clear then seeing his shot hit the foot of the post, trickling along the line and then away to safety. This was quickly followed with some resolute Wolviston defending which thwarted Liam Travers from increasing Synners lead. They quickly made amends in the 35th min with a stunning drive from 25 yards by Brandon Slater which whistled past keeper Hudson and into the top corner. It was the home teams speed and pace that was crucifying Wolviston and Slater outpaced the static Wolviston defence to simply walk the ball home for number 3 and record his own personal hat trick. With 3 mins of the half remaining Wolviston pulled a goal back with Jake Stott racing down the right and accurately crossing for Mark Sims to volley coolly home.
H.T. 3-1
In a rare Synners mistake Stott found the home goal gaping but somehow screwed wide in the 60th min. 2 mins later the home team increased their lead after more indecision in the visitors defence allowed Liam Travers to simply volley home totally unmarked. Wolviston reduced the arrears in the 65th min after a good run down the left by Scott Ryan was finished off with a header from Jake Stott. A 90th min cross from sub Mikey McGee was just missed at the far post by Stott. Synners sealed the victory in the 2nd min of injury time after yet another mistake at the back allowed Danny Boyle to score from close range.
F.T. 5-2
