Wolviston made the long journey across to Cumbria to face Windscale in the Monkwearmouth Cup first round with a minimum of players. Manager Paul Larkin despite several usual players being missing for one reason or another somehow managed to turn out 12 players to take on a big challenge. And despite the score line Wolvo gave a good account of themselves and every player who made the effort should be extremely proud of themselves. Missing form the Darlo defeat were Jacob Johnson, Matthew Bendelow, Andrew Lambett, Christopher Cotterill, Callum Blair, Jack Leicos, Elliott Pledger, Andrew Jennings and Mark Lilley. In came Jack White, Jamie Wild, Baillie Fahey, Ryan Hebb, Noah Flynn and Keefe McGrath. In the 5th min Baillie Fahey fed Ethan Willett wide down the left who left his defender for dead and crossed from the byline which fizzed across the face of the goal evading Hebb and Stangers attempts at stabbing home. 10 mins into the game a swift counterattack saw Windscale take the lead after Matty Metcalfes cross was knocked home at the far post by Dean Fox. On 15 mins Wolviston keeper Chris Davidson made 2 amazing saves within 30 seconds by first denying Lewis Jolly with a strong shot from 15 yards then saving the rebound from Ray Sempill. With 5 mins of the half remaining Fahey and Davidson combined to stop Fox from increasing Windscales lead. On the stroke of half time keeper Davidson dealt comfortably with a shot from Reece Fretwell.
H.T. 1-0
In the 1st min of the restart a long clearance by Davidson found Willett whose close range shot was kicked away by home keeper Lee Jolly. A swift counterattack by Windscale resulted in them going further ahead when Lewis Whites deep cross found full back Ross Leeson up in support to simply tap home at the far post. Wolvos Jamie Wild wheedled his way through but saw his strong shot well saved by Jolly. In the 60th min Wolvo pulled a goal back when Noah Flynn received the ball from Jae Wilson to beat the offside trap and confidently drive home. Within a minute a corner from Windscale taken by Laurie Black was headed home in fine style by Sempill. This was followed by Davidson making yet another fine save by once again denying Fox from close range. A free kick on 75 mins by Black was expertly and powerfully headed home by Sempill to put the game beyond the reach of Wolvo. In the final minute of the match Davidson made the best save of the day by bravely diving at the feet of Metcalfe and one handedly scooped the ball from the foot of the skipper.
