The Villagers beat Silksworth CW 3-2 in a very competitive game.

Todays game saw the return of ex Wolvo manager Chris Lax to Metcalfe Park and an extra portion of spice as Wolvo looked for their first win of the season. The team came out onto the pitch supported by our new Under 9’s girls team who made their parents & the club very proud. Thank you girls.

The game did not start well when on 4 minutes a Silksworth freekick was pumped into the box & hesitancy in the defending allowed Wolvo old boy Dec Blades to prod home from 4 yards.

Wolvo’s first attack was on 15 minutes was when Bath laid on McGee who controlled well, pinched a yard in his movement with his defender but his shot was pulled just wide. 10 minutes later a cross came over to new boy Steve Pickard making a welcome return to the Club after many years who laid the ball on to McGee who made no mistake with a good left footed shot into the left corner of the goal. Wolvo started to grow in confidence and on 34 mins McGees trickery saw him cross to the far post where Callum Blair rose well but could only direct just over the bar

Half Time 1-1

The second half started just as Paul & Robbie our manager and player coach respectively wanted within 3 minutes great work by McGee with him jinking past his fullback & crossed low and hard, Blair was inches away in getting a touch but Pickard was following up & gladly slipped it home to see Wolvo take the lead.

The lead didn’t last long! On 50 minutes again a bit of sloppy defending and with the assistant referee flagging for a penalty advantage was played & Silksworth prodded home to bring the game back level.

This didn’t deter Wolvo and they continued to attack & on 55 minutes great skill by Blair on the right saw him pass his defender & pulled back to McGee but he just didn’t connect as he usually does. Wolvo still pressed & on 60 another attack broke down & with his eagerness to get the ball back McGee who was booked for his challenge on the big centre back.

Play was heavily being played in the Silksworth half now and on 65 mins McGee showed his class leaving his full back for dead, his cross fell to Blair who made no mistake lashing the ball into the left hand corner of the goal for Wolvo to take the lead again 3-2, a minute later another Wolvo attack saw the ball come to Blair in the middle of the pitch about 12 yards out and he volleyed just over the bar, on 69 mins a corner to Wolvo saw big Chris Cottrell head just wide. With 10 mins to go again it was the Wolvo forwards causing problems for Silksworth’s defenders with Blairs trickery drawing 3 defenders to him and he pulled back the ball to McGee who blazed over.

In the final minutes Wolvo having made a few changes got nervous and allowed Silksworth to attack more and a deep freekick into the box saw Coulsons punch fall to a Silksworth player but he weakly spooned the ball over the top, on 89 mins another freekick was headed over by Silksworth.

In injury time young Willett was blatantly pulled back by Thompson as the last defender with Mel Hobson deciding it warranted a yellow card, the resulting freekick came to nothing.
F.T. 3-2
Full Time 3-2 and Wolvo’s first win with the lads very happy along with our supporting mascots

Player of the match went to Dave Jonno Johnson who was asked to play out of position at left back & he did not make a mistake all game
