Wolvo travelled to old friends Shotton CW in the preliminary round of the Trophy knowing they were in for a tough game against the premier league team. Stew the first team coach was out to make a statement by naming a strong starting 11 with plenty of options also from the bench.

The first attack of the game saw some good passing from the Wolvo midfield release Reece with a one on one against his defender but he shot over the top.

For the next 10 mins or so it became a cagey affair with both teams nullifying each other until on 17 mins with Alex off the pitch needing attention a Shotton corner saw Wolvo old boy Cory Fenwick blaze over the top. Bailey came on for Alex who was suffering from a dead leg.
3 minutes later Kallen in Wolvo goal made a full stretch save to keep it all square and a minute later Kallen again came to the rescue.

This pressure sparked Wolvo into life but an out of control tackle going straight through Sam from Shotton’s Evans halted a promising move, luckily the referee only produced a yellow card. The game then went a bit flat until on 37 mins Josh made an excellent through pass to brother Reece who made no mistake hammering under the keeper and 1-0 Wolvo. More pressure 2 minutes later saw influential Josh get away from his marker but shot wide, this was followed up with Harry shooting wide and then a poor touch keeping the score 1-0 at half time.

Stew made a change at half time with Lewis Snaith replacing Lewis White and Wolvo went on the offensive immediately with Cottrell heading against the post, Josh having a shot comfortably saved and even Robbie shooting with his right foot going just wide, on 61 Harry made a slide rule pass to Lewis who made no mistake, 2-0 Wolvo.

However 2 minutes later the Wolvo defence let Shotton back into the game with some indecision and on 73 Shotton’s Brightwell brought the game level with an excellent shot that Kallen had no chance of saving.

Unperturbed Wolvo quietened the home supporters on 78 when a long ball to returning old boy Pledger saw him run onto the pass and score with ease. Sub Corkish also saw a chance deflect wide and a few minutes later Elliot saw a tight angled shot put out for a corner.

The game was put to bed on 87 minutes when great team passing ended with Reece smashing home for his second goal of the game.

Overall a great score and a great team and squad effort. Onto the next round.
