Wolvo look to maintain momentum against local rivals FC Hartlepool Reserves

Having played against FC in 2 league encounters where the spoils were shared Wolvo expected another tough game against the young FC Hartlepool Reserves team and went out from the first minute to put a marker down with pressure seeing Pools concede a corner with Louie Evans flicking a header wide to Minto who headed just over.

On 6 minutes Louie used his strength to keep the defender at bay and unselfishly squared to Reece to tap home to make it 1-0 Wolvo. 4 minutes later Wolvo won a free kick in the Pools half that Robbie took and found the head of Alex Snaith who’s looping header over Carey who was off his line to make it 2-0, a mere 2 minutes later Wolvo should have had a 3rd when a long ball upto the head of Harry who flicked the ball on to Reece who’s first time shot was saved by Carey with Harry putting the rebound just wide.

Pools first real attack came on 17 but Kallen in the Wolvo goal was brave to snuff the chance out but injured himself so Dave Charlton the club physio was called into action to work his magic. On 22 Kallen again came to the rescue taking the ball off the attackers toe to keep the score 2-0, 2 minutes later a Wolvo free kick by Reece saw Louie instinctively draw a good save by Carey. With 1/2 hour gone Charlie Thompson was strong in the tackle and the Pools defence was caught square but his shot lacked any confidence and power and ended wide of the post.

Right on half time Wolvo scored a decisive 3rd with a great ball upto Louie who drew in the defender and keeper to slide under both.

Half Time 3-0 to Wolvo

The FC coaches had some stern words with their players and they set about the second half more determined and on 51 minutes came close with a header by Brown just over, Wolvo came close on 55 with a Jae header from a corner going just over the bar, on 62 Pools reduced the deficit with a well taken headed goal by Brown, the game ebbed and flowed with no team controlling the game but the game got too stretched for the Wolvo coaches of Stew and Paul having made a number of changes to give all the boys some game time, on 78 a unknown Wolvo defender cleared off the line and then with the light and my eyes fading Wolvo conceded a penalty which was dispatched by Clapham.

For the final 15 minutes Wolvo managed to see the game out with captain Jae showing his character and leadership to take star man and see Wolvo into the hat for the quarter final draw. That’s now 6 games unbeaten.

Full Time 3-2 to Wolvo
