The first half turned out to be a scrappy encounter with both teams struggling to master the unpredictable bounce/roll of the ball, first highlighted on 10 mins when poor Wolvo play in their own 18 yard box allowed a Durham attack that was luckily put out for a corner that ultimately came to nothing.
Wolvo's first real chance came on 14 mins when a corner was headed over the bar by Jae, 4 mins later saw Matty bring a fine finger tip save from a direct freekick that bounced off the post & bounce to Alex who blazed over the top from a tight position. On 23 mins good attacking play by the Wolvo forwards saw Louie tee up Charlie but again another strong shot too high. Wolvo suffered a fright a minute later when slow defending ended by giving away a freekick on the edge of the box but the resultant shot went high & wide.
On 32 mins the first goal came when a freekick was blocked by the defenders arm with the referee straight away pointing to the spot & as expected Jae did the rest. Not to be deterred Durham levelled on 36 mins when again slow defending allowed Brewster to get his shot away low & hard into the bottom corner despite Kallen's best efforts. The final action of the half when a shot was blocked by Perverley in the Durham goal & Louie reacted quickly but Peverley made another fine save
Half Time 1-1
Stew & Paul made 4 changes at half time & it did the trick, the first goal came on 50 mins when Alex nipped the ball off his defender and one on one with the keeper he made no mistake & slid home, on 54 mins a great defence splitting pass saw Lewis playing the first time in a long while lob Peverley from 40 yards. Our 5th Sub Amoo who had only been on a few mins brought a good save from Peverley, a minute later new signing Ben hit a pile driver that deflected off his defender into the top right corner.
The last 30 mins saw both teams huff & puff but the score stayed the same with Wolvo getting a valuable 3 points, onto next week & hopefully another 3 points.
Full Time with a 4 - 1 win to Wolvo
