Wolviston FC draw 1-1 with Shildon BR.

Keith Simpson26 Apr - 10:44

In a typical end of season game the Villagers share the spoils!

For a Club of Wolviston FC standards and history it was hard to accept the fact that they could only muster 11 players to face Shildon BR. Due to many injuries and work commitments it was however understandable and thanks go to Paul Larkin and Stewart Bath for their efforts in turning a team of some strength out.
BR started out on the front foot and their earlier attacks resulted in several corners until a quick counter saw Elliott Pledgers angled shot comfortably caught by visiting keeper Charlie Broom. Good football on 15 mins by Alex Snaith and Elliott Pledger resulted in Harry Mintos shot being turned away for a corner with a full length save by Broom. 2 mins later Minto surged forward but again brought out a fine diving save from Broom. On 35 mins a corner by Snaith found skipper Jae Wilson at the far post but he smashed his effort into the side netting from close range. With 5 mins of the half remaining BR had a big penalty appeal turned down after Chris Cotterill appeared to pull down play maker Finn Beadle.
H.T. 0-0
A corner by Snaith a minute after the restart was pushed onto the post by BR keeper Broom to keep the game scoreless. On 55 mins a free kick by Snaith was well saved by Broom before BR countered and saw a 25 yard drive by Luca Petch go inches over the bar. A ball over the top in the 65th min found Pledger but his final lob couldn't beat Broom who caught safely. This was followed by a corner from Snaith being headed over at the far post by Wilson. BR opened the scoring in the 77th min when a corner by Jake Heighington was confidently headed home by central defender Ryan Wardell. Wolvo brought the game level with 4 mins remaining when Stewart Bath put Elliot Pledger clear down the right and despite looking suspiciously offside smashed a beauty past Broom to record his 16th goal of the season. With time running out Alex Snaith found himself clean through but snatched at his chance and shot wide much to the amusement and dismay of his Dad!!
F.T. 1-1
