Wolviston FC Men continued their unbeaten start to pre-season on Wednesday night, recording an entertaining 5-2 victory over Normanby United at Metcalfe Park.

The result makes it three wins from three friendlies for Wolvo so far this summer, with another positive performance as preparations continue for the new Wearside League campaign.

It has been a slightly disrupted pre-season schedule, with planned fixtures against Boro Rangers and Hartlepool Pools Youth unfortunately falling through after the opposition withdrew. That made Wednesday’s opportunity for another competitive 90 minutes particularly valuable.

And there was certainly no shortage of Wolvo shirts available!

A large squad turned out for the game, including plenty of new faces, and it was fantastic to see so many players wanting to come along, get involved and potentially become part of the club. Pre-season is all about building fitness, developing partnerships and giving players opportunities, and there were plenty of positives on all three fronts.

On the pitch, Wolvo eventually ran out 5-2 winners in a competitive encounter that was played in excellent spirits throughout. Normanby provided a good test and contributed to an enjoyable game of football, while another five goals for Wolvo continued an encouraging start to the summer.

It was also brilliant to welcome members of the Billingham Coolers squad to Metcalfe Park. They came along to support the lads and had the chance to experience a little of the atmosphere around the ground on a Wolvo match night.

A big thank you must go to Normanby United for making the trip and for being excellent guests. It was a pleasure to host them, both during the match and afterwards, when the two sides stuck around to enjoy the evening together in the Wolvo beer garden.

We hope everyone eventually made it home safely too! With the jump leads called into action in the car park Football, refreshments and roadside assistance are all included in the Metcalfe Park hospitality experience!

It was exactly what a pre-season friendly should be: competitive on the pitch, played in the right spirit and followed by plenty of laughs afterwards.

Plans for a repeat fixture next summer are already being discussed, and we’ll look forward to welcoming Normanby back.
