Wolviston FC continued their encouraging pre-season preparations with a deserved 2-0 victory over TIBS at Metcalfe Park on Thursday evening.
With a 7.15pm kick-off on a warm summer’s evening, supporters were treated to another positive display as Wolvo hosted their second home friendly of the campaign, while it was the visitors’ first outing of pre-season.
The hosts settled quickly and made their bright start count by taking an early lead. Playing with confidence and moving the ball well, Wolviston continued to create chances and doubled their advantage before the break to head into half-time with a deserved 2-0 lead.
One of the biggest positives of the evening was the excellent turnout from the squad. With plenty of players available, including several new faces, the management team were able to give valuable minutes across the group. The quality on show, combined with the togetherness and spirit throughout the squad, was particularly encouraging as preparations for the new campaign continue.
The second half didn’t produce any further goals, but there was no shortage of effort or determination. Wolviston remained organised defensively, controlled large periods of possession and comfortably saw the game out to record a second clean sheet of pre-season.
While results in friendlies are never the main priority, there was plenty to be pleased about. Fitness continues to improve, new partnerships are beginning to develop, and the squad is showing the attitude and togetherness needed ahead of the season opener.
Another solid night’s work at Metcalfe Park, and plenty of reasons for optimism as the countdown to the new season continues.
