Wolviston suffered a frustrating 4-3 defeat away to Shildon Railway on Wednesday night in a game that could easily have gone the other way.

Wolvo made the perfect start, with Ben Priestley finding the net after just three minutes to give us an early lead.

The hosts responded and drew level on 20 minutes through an own goal, but Wolviston were soon back in front. Cal Croft struck on 27 minutes before Shildon levelled again four minutes later through Wilkinson.

Wolvo continued to create and were rewarded just before the break when Louie Evans made it 3-2 on 41 minutes, sending us into half-time ahead.

The second half was a frustrating one. Wolviston created enough opportunities to put the game beyond doubt but couldn’t make them count, while some questionable defending at the other end proved costly.

Shildon equalised through Curl on 75 minutes before Booth completed the turnaround four minutes later to make it 4-3.

The lads kept battling and pushing for a way back into the game right until the end, but there was to be no late reward, with Reece Chambers shown a red card in stoppage time.

A young referee had the difficult job of taking charge without assistant referees, but there are no excuses from us — the result ultimately came down to goals we should have prevented and chances we should have taken.

The lads were bitterly disappointed afterwards, and understandably so. Plenty to learn from, plenty of positives in the football we played, and an opportunity to put things right next time.
