Wolvo actually produced the first opportunity of the afternoon inside two minutes, with Ben getting a shot away only to see Moor goalkeeper Danny Hardaker make the save.

The visitors struck first on nine minutes. Scott Maughan beat the offside trap before turning and firing his effort into the roof of the net to give Moor the lead.

Wolviston looked for a response and came close when a cross from Laylan found Ben in a good position, but his header went wide. At the other end, Hardaker was soon called into action again to push away a close-range drive from Minto.

Unfortunately, a difficult spell midway through the half changed the game. Some hesitation in the Wolvo defence allowed Ellis Codd to double the visitors’ advantage on 19 minutes, before Ethan Greyson made it three just two minutes later with a direct free-kick.

That sent Wolviston into the break 3–0 down and with plenty of work to do.

The second half brought another setback when a defensive error was punished by Kai Davies, who lifted the ball over the goalkeeper to extend Moor’s advantage on 57 minutes.

Wolviston kept going and continued to make changes in an effort to find a way back into the contest. One of their better second-half openings came from a powerful direct free-kick, but Hardaker dealt with it well.

With two minutes of normal time remaining, Middlestone Moor were awarded a penalty following a foul in the area. Ellis Codd stepped up and converted from the spot for his second of the afternoon, completing the scoring at 0–5.

Not the afternoon Wolvo wanted, and one of those days where mistakes were punished by an efficient opposition. The lads now regroup, learn from it and turn their attention to the next one.
