MATCH PREVIEW | Wolviston FC v Gateshead Leam Rangers Reserves

Wolviston FC return to Metcalfe Park this Saturday for what looks set to be one of the most evenly matched fixtures of the Wearside League weekend.
The visitors are Gateshead Leam Rangers Reserves, with remarkably little separating the two sides heading into the game. Both teams have played six league matches, both have collected the same number of points, and both arrive with identical records of four wins and two defeats.
That leaves Wolviston and Gateshead Leam Rangers Reserves sitting 3rd and 4th respectively, adding a little extra edge to Saturday’s meeting as both look to strengthen their position near the top end of the table.
Recent history favours Wolvo
There is also plenty of recent history between these two sides. Across their previous five meetings, Wolviston have won three, there has been one draw, and Gateshead Leam Rangers Reserves have won once.
The standout Wolviston victory came in the Clem Smith Bowl in October 2025, when Wolvo produced an excellent performance to win 4-0 at Metcalfe Park. Gateshead Leam’s sole victory in the sequence came in a memorable 5-4 thriller in May 2025.
Since then, though, Wolviston have taken control of the fixture and go into Saturday having won the last three meetings between the clubs.

Everything points to a close one
With both sides sitting level on points, matching each other win-for-win so far and occupying neighbouring places in the table, there is very little to choose between them on current league form.
Wolviston will take confidence from that strong recent head-to-head record, particularly the run of three successive victories over Saturday’s opponents, but Gateshead Leam Rangers Reserves arrive with exactly the same league record this season and will be looking to end that sequence.
It all makes for an intriguing contest at Metcalfe Park.
