2. Ground Guide & History

A Grassroots Gem in the North East

Nestled on the outskirts of Wolviston village, Metcalfe Park has been the proud home of The Villagers since 1984. But our club's story stretches back much further – to 1910, when we began life as Wolviston St Peters, before reforming after World War II to become the club you see today.

Our ground is something of a rarity in modern football – two traditional grass pitches lovingly maintained by our dedicated groundstaff, who can often be spotted tending to their labour of love during our Monday and Thursday volunteer working parties.

What Makes Us Special

Unlike many local clubs who rely on council facilities or artificial surfaces, Metcalfe Park is proudly club-owned – a testament to generations of community support and careful stewardship. Our main pitch hosts our senior teams, while our junior pitch can be configured for various formats from 5v5 to 11v11, supporting our thriving youth section.

The ground features four changing rooms, an officials' room, our famous "Snack Shack" where match day refreshments await and also a bar within the clubhouse.

A Hint of History

Named in honour of a significant figure in our club's story, Metcalfe Park has witnessed countless memorable moments over the decades – from nail-biting cup ties to the development of talents like Philip Otele, who progressed to FC Basel.

For the full fascinating history of our ground, including rare photographs and tales from our celebrations, be sure to pick up a club programme!
