3. Reporting a Concern

At Wolviston FC, we take safeguarding seriously. If you have any concern about the welfare of a child, it’s important that you report it as soon as possible. Acting early helps us keep everyone safe.

How to Report a Concern to the Club

If you are worried about a child’s welfare, you should:

  • Contact our Club Welfare Officer (CWO) as your first point of contact
  • Speak to a coach or committee member if the CWO is not immediately available
  • Provide as much information as you can (what happened, when, who was involved)

All concerns will be treated seriously, sensitively, and confidentially.

Remember: you don’t need proof – if something doesn’t feel right, report it.

What Happens Next?

  • The CWO will listen and record the concern
  • They will decide the appropriate next steps in line with FA safeguarding guidance
  • Where necessary, concerns will be referred to the relevant authorities

All safeguarding matters are handled in line with FA and league rules, ensuring proper process and protection for everyone involved

Whistleblowing

If you feel unable to report a concern within the club, or believe it involves someone in a position of responsibility, you can report it externally.

You can contact:

  • Your local County FA safeguarding team
  • The FA safeguarding team directly

Whistleblowing is about speaking up to protect others, and you will always be supported in doing so.

Report Directly to Safeguarding Authorities

You can report concerns directly using the following official channels:

External Safeguarding Support & Advice

If you need independent advice or support, the following organisations can help:

  • NSPCC – 24/7 helpline for adults concerned about a child
  • Childline – confidential support for young people
  • NSPCC Childnet – guidance on online safety
  • CEOP – report online abuse or exploitation
